Coobaya in Amharic, an Ethiopian language, means a “cup” or in American parlance a “mug.” Tired of looking at generic and dull looking solid mugs, Mentwab Easwaran (Owner and Creative Director) was inspired to create a collection of storytelling mugs that evoke happiness and joy on one end and Zen and calmness on the other.
Coobaya’s mission is to have merchandise featuring the beauty and diversity of Africa & it’s people. In that way we hopes to present positive narratives about Africa and African diaspora cultures. At Coobaya we truly believe that design and aesthetics unwittingly impact our sense of wellbeing. We also believe that storytelling is fundamental to preserving cultural heritage. At Coobaya we have combined the two in our inaugural product launch. Each mug comes with a note that provides meaning and context of the featured art.

Hi, Welcome to Cocoa Cutie My name is Denise and I am the Artist and Creator of Cocoa Cutie. Cocoa Cutie is inspired by my nieces and nephews. I was looking for products that reflected my family but was unable to find them. I literally took to the drawing board and drew what I wanted to see.
Each character is hand-drawn by me and is one-of-a kind. Building self-esteem early on in our children is paramount, so each Cocoa Cutie is available in one of four different skin tones to reflect the diversity and beauty of every child. Also, our children deserve the very best, so I make sure each product is of the highest quality.
