 WHAT IS SEA MOSS? 

Sea moss is a type of red algae that grows naturally off the ocean and sea coasts of the Caribbean, Africa, Europe, Central and South Americas, as well as southeastern Asia. There are many types of this red algae with similar properties. 

Although considered red algae, sea moss can vary in color from golden to greenish-yellow, or red, to dark purple.

Also known as Irish Moss and Carrageen Moss, Sea Moss, is one of the most beneficial superfoods.  Sea Moss contains 92 of the 102 minerals in our bodies, including Beta-carotene, Calcium, Iodine, Iron, Magnesium, Potassium, Sulfur, Selenium, and Zinc.

When consumed, some of its internal benefits may include*:

- Dissolves inflammation and phlegm in the mucus membrane which means it provides immune support to alleviate cough, sore throat, bronchitis, and pneumonia;

- Alleviate erectile dysfunction by improving circulation;

WHAT IS WILD-HARVESTED SEA MOSS?

Much of the sea moss on the market is farm or pool grown.

Pool Grown - Pool grown sea moss, is sea moss grown in a man-made pool of moving water with a high concentration of sodium chloride, or salt (brine water).  Because of the growth conditions, pool grown sea moss is normally covered in salt and largely deficient in minerals, and contains more mucilage than natural, wildcrafted sea moss.

NOTE:  If the sea moss is packaged and SOFT and has a lot of salt, more than likely it is pool grown.

Farm grown – Sea moss producers also grow sea moss in sea farms in the ocean. While the sea moss is grown in its natural environment it is grown from ropes instead of rocks, making it easier to harvest.  However, since much of the minerals come from the rocks, farm grown sea moss will have a less nutrient value than wildcrafted sea moss.

NOTE: While farmed sea moss can also be organic, it does not necessarily equate to natural.

Wild-harvested – Wild-harvested and wildcrafted sea moss grows in its natural habitat and is harvested in an eco-friendly way.  Experienced harvesters will only take the upper part of the sea moss plant, leaving the rhizoid, or root-like attachment, so the plant can regrow and continue to support the ecosystem.
